WSOP is perhaps the most famous acronym that exists in the world of poker. It stands for World Series of Poker and it is a brand name and a series of tournaments that really do define the world of poker.

The World Series of Poker is not yet 50 years old, but it has already managed to create a history for itself that is as compelling as what you would see in most of the other sporting events around the world. The figures that factor heavily into the World Series of Poker are those that do seem like they are larger than life.

There is Doyle Brunson, the grizzled old veteran that delighted everyone with his 10th WSOP bracelet win. There is Johnny Chan, the player from the Far East that managed to make a name for himself as the last player to win back to back championships at the WSOP. And of course no listing of legends could be complete without mentioning Phil Hellmuth, the man that currently has won more bracelets at the WSOP than any other person either living or dead.

There is no doubt that every summer the WSOP becomes the tournament that everyone watches and through all of the dozens of events the bracelets that are awarded to the winner are some of the most coveted pieces of poker immortality in the history of organized poker tournaments.

When Chris Moneymaker won the Main Event in 2003 and Greg Raymer followed him in 2004, it became clear that people coming from online poker sites could really do well at WSOP events. This started a clear trend of online poker sites hosting promotional satellite tournaments with prize packages that would send people to Las Vegas to participate in the WSOP Main Event and that is a tradition that continues through to this very day.

You’ll find that just about every online poker site in the business will have at least one WSOP Qualifier running when the time comes because getting in on the WSOP money pie is something that is an obvious must for any online poker site that wants to stay in the black. Some sites are frequented more heavily than others for WSOP qualifying however, so an intelligent player that searches around some of the less trafficked websites might be able to find a satellite tournament with a guaranteed prize package to the tournament that is easier to win with fewer players involved.

In order to find that tournament however, you really would have to look around deeply because it is uncertain that many of them exist anymore with the demand that players put on sites to host those tournaments. If you’d like to find one, a good start would be to check out the poker sites mentioned below. A lot of these are high traffic and a lot of them are medium to low traffic, but in the end it’s more about the individual tournament rather than the overall poker website that could appeal to you when the time comes.
