Poker Terminology

Straight Flush
This is a hand consisting of a straight but all cards are in the same suit

Stud
This is a more general term that is used for any poker games in which all players get the first cards dealt face down then some cards are dealt face up with these face up cards are for the exclusive use of that player there can be however a further down card as in the game of 7 card stud

Suit
These are the four groups that each set of cards are grouped ie Diamonds, Spades, Clubs and Hearts

Texas Hold'em
This is the most popular poker game played both online and offline

Three of a kind
This is three cards all of the same ranking ie 7,7,7, or King King King.

Tournament Buy-In
This is what you must pay if you wish to partake in a tournament, this fee is than added to the prize pool that all players are playing for.

Tournament Entry-Fee
This is the fee that the house charges you to enter a tournament.

Trips
This is when you have 3 cards of the same rank see three of a kind

Turn
This is the fourth card that is dealt into the community cards in the games of Texas Hold'em and Omaha Poker

Two Pair
This is when you have in your hands two different pair of cards ie 77,44 or ACE,ACE King,King

Under-raise
This happens when someone raises a previous bet but then has to go all-in with their chips to do so with an amount that is less than the full raise amount.

Up Card
This is when a card is dealt upwards and all player can see it,

Wheel
A that is given to the best low hand 5, 4, 3, 2, A.
