Poker Terminology

Full House

This is when a hand holds a pair and three of a kind.

Graphics

Each poker room has different graphics, these are simply the images of everything you look at cards, other players the chips etc.

Hand

This is the set of cards that any player has been dealt by the dealer.

Heads Up

This is when there are only two players left in a game both playing for the pot.

Head to Head

This is a game of poker where only two players are allowed to participate.

High Card

This is a card that has the highest rank ie a 5 is higher than a 3 etc.

High/Low

This is a unique variation and the pot is split between both the best hand and the worst hand.

Hold'em

This is another name for Texas Hold'em and it is the most popular poker game by far.

Hole Cards

These are the two cards dealt face down to each player

In

This is the name given to a player still in the game and one who hasn't folded.

Inside Straight

This is when a player has received four cards that need a fifth to make up a straight the card needed being a card inside the straight ie player has 4 5 7 8 and needs then gets the 6, once the player gets the 6 he has made the inside straight

Jackpot

This is an award given to a player for getting a certain sequence of cards or some other event that the poker room has specified.

Kicker

This is the card that decides who will win the game when players have a tie, two of a kind or a pair.

Live Blind

This is a blind that allows counts towards any bet that you call or you raise.

Main Pot

This is the main pot of money players are playing for a side pot comes into use once any player has gone all-in.

Muck

This is all the cards that are not in use or the cards that have been discarded or folded.

Multi-Table Tournament

This is a tournament where the participants are spread across several tables, all beginning with the same amount of chips and playing until one player wins. You always have to register to play at these tournaments and they all have posted starting times.
